By necessity New Zealanders are outward looking... well grounded but open to new ideas.

New Zealand Screen Production Guides

May 2008

New Zealand has a world-class screen production environment. This is the result of strong cooperation between all parts of the New Zealand screen production industry, and a determination to partner effectively with filmmakers. The collective objective is to enable maximum production screen values.

Although most filmmakers are first drawn to New Zealand's spectacular landscapes, film-makers are quickly won over by our professional and internationally recognised film industry.

The highly successful The Lord of the Rings trilogy has become a world-wide phenomenon. All three films were made in New Zealand.

Visiting filmmakers have praised the talent, professionalism, work ethic and ingenuity of the New Zealand film industry. This includes recognition from the makers of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Bridge to Terabithia, The Water Horse, and 10,000BC.

New Zealand has a proven track record of simultaneously servicing multiple international productions, as well as our own thriving domestic industry. We have an Oscar-winning digital and physical effects industry and the skills and technology to service productions from development through to print manufacture.

The award-winning New Zealand advantage is described in Filmmaking in New Zealand, prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The New Zealand Screen Production Guide, prepared by Film New Zealand, provides detailed information about the country’s diverse locations, regional resources, state-of-the art facilities and crews. It includes guidelines about permitting, immigration regulations, taxation issues, insurance, transport and accommodation.
