Australia offices
Australia is New Zealand’s closest neighbour. Trade with Australia accounts for 23 percent of New Zealand’s exports (NZ$9.1 billion) and 18 percent of New Zealand's imports (NZ$7.4 billion).
The comprehensive free trade agreement between New Zealand and Australia, along with increasingly harmonised financial and regulatory systems and similar consumer markets, make New Zealand a highly attractive destination for Australian companies.
Australian companies are the largest investors in New Zealand. They maintained a stock of around NZ$45 billion in the New Zealand economy from 2007 to 2009.
The average exchange rate in the year ended December 2009 was NZ$1:AU$0.80.
